CeCAR is very happy to invite Dr. Jacquelien van Stekelenburg to give a talk with the title #metoo and social movements as connective action. In her presentation she will use #metoo as an illustration of a contemporary social protest. Her previous work includes topics such as civic participation, radicalization and why people collectively engage in social protests in the streets and on social media.
Following Jacquelien’s presentation, there will be a panel together with Dr. Åsa Löfgren, from the Department of Economics and Dr. Maria Edström from the Department of Journalism, Media and Communications, both at the University of Gothenburg. Åsa Löfgren, will share a perspective on collective action for social change and Maria Edström, will give a gender perspective on the use of social media.
This talk is intended to spur public debate and there will be room for questions and discussions after the presentation. We invite everyone who are interested in learning more about social movements, how they emerge and the use of social media for mobilization.
